The Museum was established to reflect the importance of the glassmaking industry in the history of Lancaster and Fairfield County. Fairfield County has been home to numerous glass companies over the years. Abundant supplies of natural gas and sandstone in the area made it a logical choice for the establishment of the glass making industry. In 2003, the Ohio legislature designated Lancaster as the Pressed Glass Capital of Ohio.
