How much do you know about bats a?" one of our best insect predators... Want to learn more about the unique lives of these flying mammals? This Friday AOA and OSU Extension are offering an evening-time program that will provide an overview of bats in our area plus hands on experience locating and identifying bats on one of AOAs bat rich properties a?" the Masha Gunder Schneider Preserve in the Pickaway Plains along the Scioto River just south of Circleville.
Marne Titchenell, Wildlife Program Specialist for Ohio State University Extension, will present an interesting program on the fascinating world of bats. This is a family friendly event. Hands-on exhibits will provide additional learning and interpretation. Following the presentation we will take a twilight stroll on the Preserve property, utilizing special equipment to detect and identify bats using their echolocation calls.
This event will be held rain or shine a?" so please come prepared and dress appropriately for the weather. Bug repellant is advisable. Please bring your own drinks and/or snacks. Water will be available. Please note that the only sanitary facilities on this property are those used by the bats so prepare accordingly. AOA events are free and open to the public.
Meet at the Marsha Gunder Schneider Preserve, located off of River Drive, just west of Highway 23. Use 27689 River Drive as the street address for the driveway. Turn south into the dirt road along the fields then take the first right turn and go down over the terrace. You will see us straight ahead at the barn. Parking is available on site.
