Rock Use in Trail Building Workshop and Workday

Aug 1, 2015
10am - 3pm.

Representatives of the Buckeye Trail Association will lead a workshop on utilizing native rock in trail construction as we work on the AOA Demonstration site trail.

Come learn how to use native sandstone to create natural rock structures that last a lifetime. Andrew Bashaw of the BTA will teach us how to use a highline to pick up 1-ton boulders and place them right where we want them for use as trail surface, culverts, or crib walls. He will demonstrate how to split a boulder in half. We will also learn how to work smarter, not harder when working with rock.

Designed and laid out by the BTA staff, the Demonstration Site upland trail winds through and highlights a variety of Hocking Hills landscapes including a native plant prairie, old growth, hemlock forest, sandstone outcrops, wetlands and streams. the completed trail is a new visitor amenity that enhances the nature-based education and outreach purposes of our Demonstration Site.

This is the fourth in a series of trail workshops sponsored jointly by AOA and the BTA. It is part of the Buckeye Trail Adopter Training Series of seven workshops.

Bring your lunch. Drinks will be provided by AOA.

Help Rain or Shine except for really bad weather and then held Sunday, August 2nd. Tools and work gloves will be provided by BTA and AOA.
